About Journalism

Standing between silence and the world.

Palestinian journalism is older than the borders drawn around it. In 1908 Najib Nassar founded al-Karmil in Haifa, and in 1911 the cousins Issa and Yousef El-Issa launched Falastin in Jaffa — papers that helped shape a national conversation and a modern Palestinian identity.

More than a century later, that work is carried by reporters with cameras and phones, often from places where a press vest offers little protection. Shireen Abu Akleh was killed while reporting in Jenin in 2022, and the Committee to Protect Journalists has described the war on Gaza as the deadliest period for journalists since it began keeping records in 1992.

The people in this path report, translate, investigate and bear witness. They make sure that what happens to Palestinians is seen — and that it is told, first, by Palestinians.
